Last summer, my kids taught me the value of letting go. Whenever we went out to do something, whether it was playing in the backyard pool, going on a hike, bouncing on a trampoline, or rafting down the river, each and every moment was the best moment of our lives.
Now, I’m not just talking in superlatives, as many in social media seem to do today. What I mean when I state that these were all the best moments of our lives is that, when we were together and having fun, nothing else mattered.
The past was behind us. Thinking about it, dwelling on it, or ruminating over some unfortunate incident – none of it changed anything.
The future had yet to be written. In front of us lie myriad possibilities, and it was up to us to decide how our stories would end.
All that mattered was the time we spent together. Each and every moment we spent was the greatest moment of our lives simply because we were alive, with one another, and creating our memories as we went along.
To commemorate this realization and honor these moments, we created a movie tonight that catalogs some of the highlights from that summer, set to one of our favorite songs of the summer.

During the winter break, I had in mind that I wanted to make the most of every day. I wanted to go to bed tired from all I did. One of the things I tried to do was enjoy my time with my children more without an eye on the clock. I really enjoyed this time. As you said, nothing else mattered. I need to make more times like that.

It's almost counter-intuitive, isn't it? When we are exhausted, all we want to do is rest, and we think we don't have the energy to play with the kids, but once you start doing so, you find that your energy actually starts to rise! That's why I titled this post “The Fountain of Youth” – because it's real!
